CMLD District Goals 1. To increase public awareness, use, and support of fb88 libraries 2. To facilitate professional development 3. To encourage resource sharing and regional cooperation 4. To foster literacy 5. To improve communication among libraries and library organizations 6. To foster improved library service The Central fb88 Library District serves Androscoggin, Franklin, Lincoln, Kennebec, Oxford, Sagadahoc, and Somerset Counties. fb88 State Library Phone: 1-207-287-5620 or 1-800-322-8899 64 State House Station Web site: HYPERLINK "http://www.maine.gov/msl/libs/districts/index.shtml" http://www.maine.gov/msl/libs/districts/index.shtml Augusta, ME 04333-0064 Central fb88 Library District Annual Report July 1, 2013 June 30, 2014 Consultants Report The fiscal year began with visits to Jefferson and Monhegan, the two CMLD libraries that didnt file an annual report for 2012. This was the first year that probation letters were sent to the librarian, board, town and state representatives. MSL was contacted by state representatives for both of these libraries. They invited the consultant to go out to Monhegan with them for a meeting. The consultant had already visited Jefferson before the call came in. Both of those libraries completed the annual report for 2014. Also in July, the CMLD and NMLD consultants accompanied the fb88 Library Leadership Institute (MLLI) participants to the New England Library Leadership Symposium (NELLS) in Massachusetts as mentors. It was an amazing week intense and productive. The group then embarked on a year-long study of Warren Bennis book Learning to Lead: A Workbook on Becoming a Leader. The group got together, either in person or virtually, from September through May. Each participant worked on a project in their library during the course of the year. We are in the process of evaluating the program and will begin preparations for the 2nd MLLI in the fall. MSL hosted the CONTED Forum in Portland in August. This is an annual gathering of the CE Consultants from all the state library agencies across the country. Thirty one states were represented. Also in attendance were 2 representatives from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) our federal funding group. The Readers Advisory web series with Joyce Saricks kicked off in October. Joyce presented a series of 6 genre studies that were attended by 284 people. The archived webinars were added to the Voluntary Certification Program course list. The certification program also launched in October and as of June 9, 726 courses have been taken. We have 99 students registered and have awarded a total of 32 certificates. The CMLD Fall Council Meeting was attended by 32 people and was presented by Christine McNew. The topic was Jump Start Your Library Programs for Babies, Toddlers and Preschoolers. Christine compiled an amazing manual for each participant and the program was engaging, fun and very informative. In December, the consultant attended a workshop in Rangeley on the public value of libraries presented by George Morse and Jane Haskell, UM Extension. Representatives from Farmington, Rangeley, Rumford, and Wilton attended. The libraries are encouraged to bring town officials as well library staff and board members, for a discussion of the value libraries bring to the community. The results are a series of public value statements which illustrate the benefits of a library to a library non-user. Eventually, there will be a series of generic value statements for various types of library programs on our website that libraries can then tailor for local use as part of advocacy. In late January, Winslow Public Library and Vassalboro Public Library began discussions on becoming sister libraries as part of the ongoing hub library effort that CMLD is interested in fostering. In March, the consultant travelled to Illinois to observe the 2014 ILEAD USA session being conducted by the State Library of Illinois. ILEAD is an immersive leadership and technology training program that challenges teams of librarians from different types of libraries to work together to solve a community need using participatory or emerging technology. fb88 will be conducting this program in 2015. The consultants are working with MLA and MASL to plan the joint conference which is November 16 and 17 at the Cross Center in Bangor. Queries to the consultant range from questions about SCOOP and MARVEL to trustee issues, personnel policies, statistics and standards, automation, copyright and CIPA, grants, endowments and fundraising, floods and leaks, and building/renovation issues.
