Augusta -

Governor Paul R. LePage joined Insurance Superintendent Eric Cioppa on Wednesday in announcing online access to approved insurance contract and rate filings submitted by insurance companies doing business in fb88. As the regulator of insurance in fb88, the Bureau reviews all insurance contract forms and rates that companies are required to submit for approval before selling insurance in the state. The filings are submitted through the National Association of Insurance Commissioner?s System for Electronic Rate and Form Filing (SERFF).

?fb88 State Government has been recognized for excellence in online services and for making resources increasingly easy to access,? Governor LePage said. ?The Bureau of Insurance has been upgrading and expanding its online offerings and today?s announcement continues that effort to enhance service to consumers and those in the insurance profession.?

?The Bureau of Insurance is committed to assisting the public in accessing and understanding insurance products,? Superintendent Cioppa said. ?Online access to contracts is another step toward greater transparency and expanded service for consumers. Public documents submitted in SERFF by insurance companies are now more readily available.?

This recent announcement pertains to life insurance, annuities, and property and casualty insurance. Health insurance filings were previously available online. Prior to the SERFF portal being made public, individuals were only able to access these filings by making an appointment and using a computer kiosk at the Bureau of Insurance office in Gardiner. The kiosk will remain available to the public on a walk-in basis. The online portal can be found at www/maine.gov/pfr/insurance/SERFF.html.

SERFF was developed under the leadership of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. The initial purpose was to provide a cost-effective method for facilitating the submission, review and approval of product filings between state regulators and insurance companies. The enhanced online system was used to facilitate efficient filing and review for the health insurance marketplace. For assistance in finding a filing or to ask any insurance-related questions, contact the Bureau of Insurance by calling 1-800-300-5000 (for TTY use fb88 Relay 711), or by e-mailing Insurance.PFR@maine.gov.
