DDPC provides outpatient services to a specialized population whose needs cannot otherwise be met by community services providers.
Will I get my own room?
Most of our rooms in the main building are set up to accommodate two people. All the rooms in the gero-psychiatric unit are single occupancy. You will have your own bed, chair, and shelves for personal items. DDPC always strives to keep everyone safe. You will not be put in a room with anyone that would compromise your safety or harm you.
Can I smoke?
No, DDPC is a tobacco-free campus. You can’t smoke on the campus or any time you are off grounds with a DDPC staff member.
When you arrive at DDPC a nurse and social worker will greet you at the entrance.
When you arrive at DDPC admission staff will be there to greet you.
You may have your family, guardian, or significant person in your life accompany you or meet you at DDPC if you wish. Some people find this helpful in decreasing the anxiety they may be experiencing about the transfer to DDPC.
Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center (DDPC) is proud to be accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC), whose seal of approved is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality.
All psychiatrists at DDPC are certified by The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology as specialists in psychiatry. They serve as the leaders of treatment teams, approving, and coordinating all treatment provided to each patient. They and a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, pharmacotherapy, non-medication therapy services, and have a major role in developing an individualized multidisciplinary treatment plan for each patient.
Dorothea Dix is aggressively pursuing the use of quality indicators and performance measurements as a way to manage care and implement best services and monitor continued improvement. Dorothea Dix uses both internal standards and where available national indicators.
We welcome not only your review but any comments you may have to improve these reports.
Please note we are a tobacco-free and fragrance-free campus. Thank you for not smoking or wearing heavily scented products.
8:30 am to 8:00 pm daily
If you have patient care and safety concerns, you are encouraged to address the issue through Dorothea Dix’s grievance process. Patients wishing to file a grievance can request a form from any staff member on their inpatient unit. If your concerns cannot be resolved through that process, you may contact The Joint Commission on hospital accreditation at (800) 994-6610.
