What are the details of an EMS license?

  • Residency in fb88 or affiliation with an EMS service or agency is NOT required (except for EMD providers).
  • This license is separate from any other state or NREMT certification you may have.
  • The State of fb88 does not issuephysical EMS license cards. You can download and print a copy of your license by logging into your eLicensing account.
  • fb88 EMS licenses expire at midnight on the last day of the month listed.
  • Renewal licenses based on NREMT certification will match the expiration date ofthe NREMT certification.
  • To renew your EMS license, check your Continuing Education Hours (CEH) status in your eLicensing account.
  • Any classes offered through CAPCE or are “Alphabet Soup” classes (CPR, PHTLS, ACLS, PALS, etc.) will not automatically appear on your fb88 EMS CEH report. Proof of completion and current status must be submitted electronically in your eLicensing CEH record.
  • fb88 EMS does not require CPR, ACLS, PHTLS, PALS or NREMT for renewal.
  • Rules regarding the issuance, maintenance and renewal of fb88 EMS EMR, EMT, Advanced EMT, and Paramedic Licenses can be found in Chapter 5 of the fb88 EMS Rules

Relicensure may take up to 10 days. Please plan ahead! If you have not been issued a renewed license and your current license expires, YOU CANNOT PERFORM EMS CARE, TREATMENT, OR TRANSPORT!

When is my application available?

Your renewal application will populate in your 30 days before your license expiration date. In months with 31 days, the application would be available on on the 2nd day of the month of which you are to expire (so if your expiration is October 31, the application will appear on October 2)

What if I submit early for renewal?

If you submit prior to the month your EMS license expires, and you wish to keep the same month as your expiration date, the application will remain in an in-box until the month you are due to expire. It willbe processed the month you are due to expire and you will be notified by email when it is completed.

What if I submit early and want to change my expiration date?

If you submit prior to the month your EMS license expires, and wish to change the month of your next renewal, please include a note in your application stating this, or call fb88 EMS and speak to a licensing agent. Please contact the fb88 EMS licensing team for assistance.

How do I determine if I have enough continuing education hours?

To determine your Continuing education status:

1. Review what is needed based on your license level

  • View CEH Requirements for License Renewal (PDF)(11/1/23)
  • The columns indicate license level, the rows indicate hours needed in each category
  • Determine any CEHs you have on record via the link
  • Note - classes taken outside of fb88 EMS (such as CPR, ACLS, online classes other than MEMSEd, will NOT show on your CEH report. When you relicense, you will be prompted to attached digital copies of completion certificates/cards)

4. What if I have a CAPCE (formerly CECBEMS)approved course?

  • These courses are all pre-approved and count hour for hour in the indicated category.
  • You MUST enter the information manually in your eLicensing account, including a digital copy of the card or certificate for the hours to be counted. You can distribute the approved hours as allowed and described in the CAPCE certificate.

5. What if I take a class not listed or was out of state?

  • If a class is approved by another state for EMS credit, fb88 will accept the credits on an hour for hour basis. You MUST enter the information manually in your eLicensing account, including a digital copy of the card or certificate for the hours to be counted. You can distribute the approved hours as allowed and described in the completioncertificate or card.
  • If not CAPCE approved, please call fb88 EMS for guidance prior to the course.

I am taking an EMS licensure class to upgrade my license - how can I use it for CEH credit?

If you are currently in class (or have just completed class and are not yet licensed at the new level), you can use time in the class for CEH credit. This may be EMR to EMT, EMT to AEMT or EMT/AEMT to Paramedic. You will need copies of the course syllabus/outline and review the following form, complete it, and submit tothe fb88 EMS licensing team for assistance.

I took college classes - can I use them for CEH credit?

If you have completed a class or classes in a post-secondary (college) institution, and the course is relevant or demonstrates content that is related to EMS (e.g., A&P, pharmacology, nursing assessment),you may be able to use time in the class for CEH credit.You will need have obtained a minimum grade of "C" or equivalent, and provide copies of the course syllabus/outline and review the following form, complete it, and submit tothe fb88 EMS licensing team for assistance.

Do I need to report or update anything during my licensure period?

A licensee or an applicant for licensure under this chapter shall notify the Board in writing within 10 days of a:

  1. Change of name or address, including personal email address
  2. Criminal conviction
  3. Revocation, suspension, or other disciplinary action taken in this or any other jurisdiction against any occupational or professional license held by the applicant or licensee or,
  4. Material change in the conditions or qualifications set forth in the original application for licensure submitted to the Board.

I was deployed in the National Guard or US Armed Forces Reserve

If you are a member of the National Guard or the reserves of the United States Armed Forces and have been deployed, special circumstances may apply.

If you have been deployed for more than 30 days and have been licensed by fb88 EMS for more than 30 days, you may been entitled to an automatic extension of your EMS license. Please review the fb88 Statue found at
