A "Podiatrist" is an individual currently licensed by this Board to practice podiatric medicine. The practice of podiatric medicine means the diagnosis and treatment of maladies of the human foot and ankle by medical, surgical or mechanical means. This includes the performance of a history and physical on a podiatrist's preoperative patient and upon the patient's admission into a hospital or ambulatory surgical center and includes the administration of local anesthesia in conjunction with the practice of podiatry. The use of general anesthesia is permitted in conjunction with the practice of podiatry when administered or supervised by a medical or osteopathic physician who assumes responsibility for the administration of that anesthesia to a patient being treated by a podiatrist. ÌýApplicants for Podiatrist licensure are required to submit:

• AnÌý;

• AÌýCertificate of Podiatric Education Form (PDF);

• Official transcript of pre-podiatric college education;

• Copy ofÌýpodiatric degree;

• Official documentation of passing scores on Part I, II and III of the National Boards forwarded through FPMB;

• If graduated after January 1, 1991: Copy ofÌýCertificate of Residency;

• Copy of current CPR certification;

• Documentation of current DEA number;

• CompletedÌýfb88 Jurisprudence Examination (PDF);

• Official license verifications for all professional licenses the applicant holds or has ever held, even if they are now expired. License verifications need to include the applicant's name, license number, license type, initial issue date, current expiration date and whether the license has ever been disciplined. Copies of professional licenses areÌýnotÌýacceptable.

PODÌýRenewal Information

Terms:

• Renews every June 30th regardless of initial issue date.

Requirements:

• 25 credit hours of continuing medical education every 2 years (due onÌýodd-numbered years) with at least 15 hours obtained in Category 1 as described in Board rulesÌýChapter 3.

• Valid CPR recertification.

• Any individual who is licensed after June 30th of an even-numbered year is required to obtain 12.5 hours of continuing medical education, with at least 7.5 hours obtained in Category 1, for the first renewal.
