Description
"Respiratory care" is defined as the therapy, management, rehabilitation, diagnostic evaluation and care, administered on the order of a physician or surgeon, of patients with deficiencies and abnormalties affecting the cardiopulmonary system and associated aspects of other bodily system.
To be eligible for the "Respiratory Care Therapist" license, the applicant must have passed the NBRC advanced practitioner examination and either hold a current NBRC credential as a registered respiratory therapist OR have completed a COARC-accredited educational program for respiratory therapists.

License verifications need to include the applicant's name, license number, license type, initial issue date, current expiration date and whether the license has ever been disciplined. Copies of professional licenses areÌýnotÌýacceptable.

Description
The "Temporary Respiratory Care Technician" license is for individuals who have completed a COARC-accredited educational program for respiratory therapists or respiratory care technicians but do not hold current NBRC credentials as a registered therapist or certified respiratory therapy technician NOR have passed theÌýNBRC advanced practitioner or entry-level examination.
TPs may only practice under the direct supervision of a fully licensed respiratory care practitioner. TPs may only perform the tasks which the licensee has been trained and authorized to perform.
No more than one temporary license may be granted to a person who has completed the education requirements and the license may be extended for an additional 90 days at the discretion of the Board.
After obtainingÌýcurrent NBRC credentials as a registered therapist or certified respiratory therapy technician OR passing theÌýNBRC advanced practitioner or entry-level examination, TPs may apply for the applicable full license.

- Ìý Ìý TP licenses are valid for 90 days and cannot be renewed.

TP licenses may be extended for an additional 90 days at the discretion of the board.

Description
"Respiratory Care Practitioner Trainee" means an employee of a health care facility who is enrolled in the clinical portion of a COARC-accredited respiratory care educational program.
The applicant may not be employed in any capacity that involves the delivery of any respiratory care procedure until the license has been issued.ÌýA TR shall not perform invasive procedures or procedures related to critical respiratory care, including therapeutic, diagnostic and palliative procedures. TRs may only perform services under the on-site supervision of a licensed respiratory care practitioner.
An individual may not apply for or hold a TR license if the individual is eligible to apply for a Temporary Respiratory Care Technician, Respiratory Care Therapist or Respiratory Care Technician license.
TRs should apply for the Temporary Respiratory Care Technician license if they have graduated but do not have NBRC credentials or haven't passed the NBRC advanced practitioner or entry-level examination.
