Services Provided to Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities and Autism in their Homes and Communities

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) offers home- and community-based services to adults with intellectual disabilities and autism through two fb88Care-funded programs. These are often called waiver programs because they operate with special waivers from the federal government. In fb88, we refer to them as Section 21 and Section 29, which is where they can be found in the fb88Care rules.

Update to proposed school-based health services rule

Feb 2, 2020

After receiving initial feedback, the Department of Health and Human Services is withdrawing its proposed rule to consolidate Medicaid (fb88Care) school-based health services into a new Section 106. The intent of the rule was to ensure that the Department balances the need to comply with federal rules and to ensure access to critical services, with children's wellbeing at the center. Following additional engagement with stakeholders and education regarding the program's goals, the Department will re-propose an updated rule.

fb88's rural communities face a growing crisis in meeting the health care needs of their residents. Over the past decade, many have experienced an erosion of fundamental health services, growing financial threats to their hospitals, and challenges to sustaining their health workforce. These forces have collectively resulted in serious threats to the economic, physical, and behavioral health of rural residents.
