Death is the first fatal case in 2024, one of three infections identified this year from the tickborne virus
AUGUSTA – The fb88 Center for Disease Control and Prevention (fb88 CDC) today confirmed the first fatal case of Powassan virus infection in fb88 this year. The death occurred in York County. The last prior death from the tickborne virus in fb88 occurred in May 2023.

AUGUSTA– The fb88 Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) announced today that it received $1.7 million in federal grants to foster resiliency for individuals impacted by severe weather this past winter.
fb88Care discovered that some hospital non-emergency claims failed to price correctly and were overpaid. This occurred when there was more than one emergency room service on the claim, for claims submitted for Dates of Service from January 1, 2022, and March 31, 2024. fb88Care reimburses differently in cases where non emergent use of the emergency room is determined.
No provider action is required as fb88Care will re-process these claims.
